Sable Quinn

Faction: Nocturne Age: 28 Origin: Refugee (arrived Year 72) Role: Master infiltrator and social engineer

Overview

Quinn came to Elarion from the outside world, fleeing a past she refuses to discuss. What’s known: she arrived with nothing, owed dangerous people dangerous amounts of money, and within six months had paid off her debts by stealing information no one thought could be stolen. She’s a chameleon, capable of being whoever a mark needs to see. Her specialty is social engineering and misdirection-getting into places she shouldn’t be by making people want her there.

Quinn’s arrival in Elarion was desperate. Fleeing something (or someone) from her past, she came with nothing but her wits and a mountain of debt. In another city, that would have been a death sentence. In Elarion, it was an opportunity. Within weeks, she’d identified the people who mattered, the systems that moved money, and the gaps in their security. Her first major score paid off her debts. Her second caught Kade Moros’s attention.

She infiltrated one of his dead drops-not to steal, but to leave a message: “You have three traitors. I can name them for a price.” She was accurate on all three counts. Kade recruited her on the spot. In the six years since, Quinn has become one of Nocturne’s most valuable assets. She’s stolen identities, infiltrated factions, and extracted information that others died trying to get. She makes the impossible look easy.

Personality

  • Adaptable: Quinn can become whoever the situation demands, shifting personas with practiced ease that makes others question whether they’ve ever met the real her.
  • Calculating: She remains constantly three moves ahead, analyzing every conversation and encounter for leverage, weakness, and opportunity.
  • Charming: Her disarming smile and sharp wit lower defenses instantly, making even the most suspicious targets feel at ease in her presence.
  • Guarded: She reveals nothing real about herself, maintaining emotional distance from everyone as a survival mechanism-get too close, and people see through the masks.
  • Ambitious: Though grateful to Kade for the opportunity he gave her, a growing restlessness stirs within her, and she’s begun considering striking out on her own.

Abilities & Aether Use

Quinn approaches Aether with tactical precision, consuming small doses to heighten charm and sharpen perception during cons. She views it as another tool in her arsenal rather than a power to be flaunted, preferring subtle enhancement over flashy displays that might draw unwanted attention.

Primary Abilities:

  • Social Engineering: Read people, become what they need to see
  • Infiltration: Access anywhere by making people want her there
  • Misdirection: Make people look where she wants them to look
  • Aether Drain: Can drain Aether from opponents during fights (learned from Bryn Kael)

Combat Style: Avoids direct combat when possible. When forced to fight, uses daggers and Aether-draining techniques to weaken enhanced opponents.

Limitations: Her reliance on subtlety means she’s vulnerable if her cover is blown mid-operation. Direct confrontation with enhanced combatants puts her at a significant disadvantage, and her Aether-draining abilities require close proximity-dangerous against skilled fighters.

Relationships

Kade Moros (Nocturne)

Kade serves as Quinn’s mentor and employer, the one who saw her potential and gave her a place in Nocturne’s ranks. She owes him everything-her position, her skills, her survival in Elarion. But debt creates resentment, and six years of loyal service has bred an ambition that increasingly chafes against her obligations. She’s begun considering what it might mean to strike out on her own, though she knows Kade doesn’t let valuable assets simply walk away.

Tess Aurel (Veilwalkers)

An uneasy friendship born from a shared job, Tess represents one of the few people Quinn trusts-relatively speaking. Their connection exists in the gray spaces between factions, built on mutual respect for each other’s competence rather than any deeper emotional bond. Even this friendship remains complicated by Quinn’s inability to fully lower her guard with anyone.

Lithek (Wildborn)

A chance meeting in contested territory sparked unexpected romantic tension between Quinn and the Wildborn survivor. Neither has acted on the attraction-both are too professional to let personal feelings compromise their respective positions. The unresolved connection lingers, a question neither seems willing to answer.

Bryn Kael (Veilwalkers)

Bryn taught Quinn her Aether-draining techniques during a brief alliance, recognizing a kindred spirit in the young infiltrator. A mutual respect exists between them, the understanding that passes between thieves who recognize excellence in their craft. Quinn considers the skills Bryn shared among her most valuable assets.

Echo (Silvertongue)

Quinn has been impersonated by the shapeshifting entity known as Echo. The experience left her unsettled-she’s not sure if she should be flattered that her identity was worth stealing, or terrified at how seamlessly Echo wore her face. The violation has made her hyperaware of others who might not be who they appear to be.

Rook Ashwell (Nocturne)

A professional rivalry tempered by necessary cooperation defines Quinn’s relationship with Rook. Both work for Kade but approach intelligence gathering from opposite angles-Rook steals memories directly while Quinn steals trust. They’ve partnered on operations requiring both skillsets, their complementary methods proving effective even as their competitive nature creates friction.

Dorian Sable (Silvertongue)

Quinn encountered the legendary forger during an art heist, and mutual professional respect has marked their interactions since. They’ve crossed paths multiple times, always with tense civility, each recognizing the other’s mastery of their respective crafts. Neither trusts the other, but both acknowledge the value of maintaining cordial relations.
