Timeline of Elarion

From a golden metropolis to a fractured wasteland — trace the collapse, survival, and rebirth of Elarion through its defining moments.

Before the Fall

Pre-Aetherfall
Ancient

Aether Nexus Formed

The natural convergence of ley lines beneath what would become Elarion creates an Aether nexus — an invisible wellspring of magical energy.

Centuries Ago

City of Elarion Founded

Elarion grows into one of the world's great metropolises, unknowingly built atop the largest Aether nexus on the planet.

Modern Era

Golden Age of Elarion

At its peak, Elarion is a city of twelve million — a beacon of culture, technology, and commerce. No one suspects what lies beneath.

The Aetherfall

Day Zero
Day 0

The Fracturing

The Aether nexus beneath Elarion violently erupts. A pillar of raw magical energy splits the sky. The city's infrastructure collapses in minutes. Climate zones shatter. Reality warps.

Day 0

The Great Death

Millions perish in the initial cataclysm. Those who survive are changed — some mutated, some empowered, all traumatized.

Day 0

The Isolation

The Aetherfall creates an anomalous barrier around the city. Elarion is cut off from the outside world. No signals get in or out.

The Dark Months

Months 1–6
Month 1

Collapse of Order

Government, military, and emergency services completely dissolve. Lawlessness reigns. Survival becomes the only law.

Month 2

First Mutations Appear

Survivors exposed to high Aether concentrations begin to change. Some gain abilities. Others lose their humanity. Fear of the "touched" grows.

Month 3

Climate Zones Stabilize

The chaotic weather patterns settle into the distinct climate zones: Frost Quarter, The Scar, Verdant Sprawl, Drowned Coast, and the Median.

Month 4

Resource Wars Begin

Organized groups begin fighting over food, water, shelter, and Aether deposits. The strongest begin to dominate.

Rise of the Factions

Months 6–18
Month 6

Nocturne Emerges

From the criminal underworld of the Median, Nocturne organizes the Night Market — establishing the first stable economy and neutral ground in post-Fall Elarion.

Month 8

Ironheart Consolidates

Engineers and military survivors in the Frost Quarter unite under the Ironheart banner, building forge-workshops and developing mechanical augmentations to survive the cold.

Month 9

Wildborn Commune Forms

Those who embraced their Aether mutations retreat to the Verdant Sprawl, forming a commune that reveres the natural changes wrought by the Fall.

Month 10

Veilwalkers Revealed

Individuals who can directly channel raw Aether emerge from hiding. They form the Veilwalkers — part religious order, part research institute — seeking to understand the Aetherfall.

Month 12

Silvertongue Takes the Port

A coalition of merchants, smugglers, and diplomats seizes control of the Drowned Coast's port — Elarion's only link to the outside world. They call themselves Silvertongue.

Month 14

Fleshbound Breakaway

Radical scientists and desperate survivors begin experimenting with forced Aether mutation. Their gruesome methods horrify even the other factions. They retreat to the Scar.

The Faction Wars

Year 2+
Year 2

The Battle of Old Parliament

All six factions clash over the symbolic seat of power. No one wins. The ruins become contested ground — a permanent reminder that no single faction can dominate.

Year 2

The Night Market Accords

After the Battle of Old Parliament, faction leaders meet at the Night Market. They agree to basic rules of engagement — no attacks on civilians, no destruction of the port, and the Night Market remains neutral.

Year 3

The Aether Well Discovery

Scouts discover a massive natural Aether deposit in neutral territory. Tensions escalate as every faction moves to claim it. A new cold war begins.

Present

The Current Conflict

The six factions exist in a state of armed tension. Alliances shift. Betrayals are common. The Aether Well remains contested. And the barrier around Elarion shows signs of weakening...
