Jax Omri
Overview
Faction: Veilwalkers Age: 26 Origin: Elarion native Role: Raw Aether channeler and reality-bender Alias: “The Conduit”
Jax Omri channels raw, unfiltered Aether directly through his body, using himself as a living conduit to bend reality without the theoretical frameworks other Veilwalkers rely on. He doesn’t study the Veil-he forces his will through it. Where other Veilwalkers carefully manipulate reality’s fabric, Jax tears it and reshapes it through sheer force.
Jax was born in Elarion in Year 74 to parents who lived in one of the most Aether-saturated districts of the city. His mother had worked in early Aether refineries, his father in salvage operations deep in crystalline veins. Both carried heavy Aether exposure, which they unknowingly passed to their unborn child.
From infancy, Jax was different. He grew up breathing Aether-saturated air, drinking water touched by crystalline contamination, eating food grown in tainted soil. Where this killed or mutated others, his prenatal exposure had made him a perfect vessel-his body adapted to channel raw Aether as naturally as breathing.
As a child, he manifested abilities spontaneously-objects moving without touch, small fires igniting from nothing, reality briefly stuttering around him during emotional outbursts. His parents, terrified, tried to suppress his abilities. When he was twelve, corporate soldiers tried to capture him for study as a potential weapon. He instinctively channeled raw Aether and obliterated them, along with the surrounding block.
Veilwalkers found him in the crater, unconscious and barely alive from the feedback. They recognized him as an extremely rare phenomenon-someone who could survive channeling raw Aether without preparation or theory. They took him in, not as a student but as something unprecedented.
They taught him control, not through academic study but through meditation and instinct. He learned to channel Aether through his body without it destroying him (mostly). He became the fellowship’s hammer-their answer to threats requiring overwhelming force rather than subtle manipulation.
Over fourteen years, he’s pushed his abilities further than any Veilwalker thought possible. He’s also dying slowly. Every channeling burns him from the inside. Aether scars cover his body like crystalline tattoos. He knows he won’t live to thirty but considers that an acceptable price for the power he wields.
Personality
- Intense and Reckless: Jax lives with the certainty that his abilities will kill him soon, so he holds nothing back on every mission, treating each one as potentially his last and never fearing death itself-only fearing dying without having mattered.
- Gentle at Rest: Surprisingly soft-spoken and careful when not channeling, he shows deep compassion for anyone suffering, with the violence of his abilities contrasting sharply with his fundamental kindness.
- Morally Burdened: He struggles constantly with the moral implications of his reality-reshaping power, knowing that mistakes could literally rewrite existence, though his youth and recklessness sometimes override his caution.
- Fiercely Loyal: He considers the Veilwalkers his true family for giving him purpose and control when he was destroying himself, and would channel himself to death without hesitation to protect them.
- Darkly Humorous: Despite knowing he’s dying, he maintains dark humor about his condition, making jokes about “burning out” or “going supernova” that disturb people who care about him.
Abilities & Aether Use
Jax represents the most dangerous form of Aether manipulation-direct, unfiltered channeling without theoretical frameworks or protective techniques. Where other Veilwalkers treat Aether like a delicate instrument requiring careful study, Jax treats his body as a living conduit, forcing raw power through himself by sheer instinct and will. This approach grants him devastating power that exceeds most carefully prepared techniques, but at the ultimate cost-his own life slowly burning away with every use.
Primary Abilities
Raw Channeling: Jax channels pure, unrefined Aether directly through his body without processing or theory. This lets him manifest effects instantly-reality bending, telekinetic force, energy projection-with power that exceeds most Veilwalkers’ carefully prepared techniques.
Reality Tearing: By channeling massive amounts of Aether, he can temporarily rip reality and create localized anomalies-objects passing through walls, gravity reversing, time stuttering. These effects are unstable and dangerous but devastatingly effective.
Secondary Abilities
Feedback Resistance: Years of channeling have made his body partially Aether-crystallized. This gives him abnormal resistance to Aether feedback and reality distortion effects that would kill normal humans. It also means he’s slowly transforming into something not quite human.
Instinctive Manipulation: Unlike other Veilwalkers who study theory, Jax operates on pure instinct. He feels how reality wants to bend and pushes it that direction. This makes him unpredictable and adaptable but also means he can’t always replicate effects consistently.
Limitations
Every use burns him from inside. Aether crystallization spreads through his body, slowly replacing organic tissue. Heavy channeling leaves him collapsed and coughing blood. He’s dying incrementally with each use, and he knows it.
Relationships
Tess Aurel (Veilwalkers)
Tess is Jax’s closest friend and frequent partner in the field. Her probability manipulation complements his reality-bending perfectly-she calculates the odds and optimal approaches while he executes the plan with overwhelming force. Their partnership represents one of the fellowship’s most effective combat combinations. What weighs on Jax is knowing that Tess is constantly calculating the probability of his death, and it breaks his heart that she cares so much about someone she knows is dying.
Void Prophet (Veilwalkers)
Professional tension defines their relationship. The Prophet’s Aether-consuming abilities create dead zones where Jax’s channeling fails completely, making them fundamentally incompatible in the field. They avoid working together whenever possible, though both respect each other’s commitment to the fellowship and recognize the other’s value to their cause. The Prophet’s nature as an Aether nullifier represents one of the few things that can shut Jax down entirely.
Eidolon (Veilwalkers)
Eidolon serves as Jax’s mentor, attempting to teach him the theoretical frameworks that other Veilwalkers use to safely manipulate reality. Jax mostly ignores these lessons, preferring his instinctive approach, though he occasionally finds the concepts useful when facing unusual situations. Eidolon views Jax’s raw channeling approach as both admirably powerful and dangerously self-destructive, embodying everything the fellowship values and fears about uncontrolled Aether use.
Bryn Kael (Veilwalkers)
Jax’s friendship with Bryn is marked by genuine concern. He sees in Bryn someone potentially heading down the same path of self-destruction through Aether overuse, and despite being only slightly older, he tries to mentor her away from his mistakes. Their bond reflects his desire to matter beyond his own short life-if he can help Bryn avoid his fate, perhaps his existence will have served some greater purpose.
Pistonbreaker (Ironheart)
A hostile encounter with Pistonbreaker left lasting trauma. The Ironheart soldier’s null-field technology shut down Jax’s channeling completely, leaving him powerless and vulnerable. He barely escaped with his life, and now actively avoids any situation where they might meet again. Pistonbreaker represents one of the few enemies who can render Jax’s devastating abilities completely useless.
Luna Veil (Veilwalkers)
Luna is fascinated by Jax’s raw channeling approach and frequently tries to map the mental pathways he uses instinctively. Through her dream-walking abilities, she observes how his mind processes Aether without the theoretical frameworks other Veilwalkers rely upon. Jax finds her observations both helpful for understanding his own abilities and deeply unsettling, as she sees aspects of his power even he doesn’t fully comprehend.
Orion Flux (Veilwalkers)
Orion maintains professional respect for Jax, documenting his reality-bending effects for the fellowship archives. Jax appreciates having records of what he does, understanding that his approach is so unique it may never be replicated. Even if he doesn’t fully understand Orion’s analysis, he recognizes the value in preserving knowledge of his abilities for future Veilwalkers.
Gideon Pike (Ironheart)
Jax maintains a running philosophical argument with Gideon about whether Aether constructs can truly think. Jax insists they can, based on his instinctive understanding of Aether’s nature, while Gideon maintains they’re merely sophisticated tools. Neither will concede the point, and their debates continue whenever circumstances bring them together, representing a rare intellectual connection across faction lines.
